VALORANT Esports 101: Your Guide to the Champions Tour

VALORANT Esports 101: Your Guide to the Champions Tour

After being announced in 2020 and having its first season in 2021, the VALORANT Champions Tour has taken the Esports world by storm.

With the competition underway for the 2024 season, here is the ultimate handbook for navigating the competitive VALORANT Champions Tour. This guide provides invaluable insights into the VALORANT Champions Tour, covering fundamental aspects such as its definition, schedule, participating teams, and operational framework.

Seasoned esports enthusiasts and newcomers can now learn more about the electrifying world of the VALORANT Champions Tour in 2024.

What is VALORANT Champions Tour?

The VALORANT Champions Tour (VCT) showcases the world’s top teams in a year-long, global circuit organized by Riot Games. This tour comprises three tiers of competition: Challengers, Masters, and Champions.

The tour hosts competitions across the world, spanning North America, South America, Europe, and Asia, and attracting over 10,000 teams from seven regional leagues each season. For the 2024 season, Riot Games introduced a revamped pro system alongside Championship Points to provide a more straightforward path for teams to reach the top. With region-locked Masters 1 and international LAN events starting from Masters 2, the VALORANT Champions Tour promises intense competition and thrilling moments as teams vie for supremacy on the global stage.

How does the VALORANT Champions Tour Work?

Teams begin their journey to become VALORANT Champions by competing in regional Challengers events, battling to advance to international Masters tournaments. Each Masters event offers Championship Points, and teams accumulate these points throughout the season to secure a coveted spot at the Champions event, where one team will become the next VALORANT Global Champion

The VALORANT Champions Tour 2024 is formatted using a three-tiered structure, which includes Premier, Challenger, and Game Changer.\

Premier

Teams start with the Premier category, where the best VALORANT players worldwide showcase their skills. The Premier tournaments are a gateway to Challengers, where top-performing teams progress towards the ultimate goal: the Champions event.

Unlike previous iterations, the 2024 VALORANT Champions Tour format streamlines the qualification process, granting direct entry to Challengers for top teams emerging from the in-game Premier system. This shift provides a more accessible pathway for emerging talent to shine globally.

Challenger

The Challenger format will evolve further in 2024, with the calendar spanning the entire year to culminate in the Challengers Ascension stage. The top-performing teams secure a spot alongside the world’s best in the VALORANT Champion Tour 2025, underscoring the tour’s commitment to showcasing emerging talent and increasing exposure for rising stars.

The competitive season starts with the VCT 2024 Kick-Off Tournament (running from January to February), a thrilling two-week competition featuring top teams from every region. It’s an event setting the stage for the season, with seven major tournaments throughout the year, including the Masters Madrid.

Game Changer

The introduction of Game Changers adds a groundbreaking dimension to the 2024 season, with RIOT’s official tournament promoting inclusivity and diversity in esports.

Game Changers provides a platform for women and marginalized genders to showcase their talents, with regional tournaments leading up to the highly anticipated Game Changers World Championship.

For teams that fall short of qualifying for VALORANT Champions 2024, hope remains with the Last Chance qualifiers in July, offering a final opportunity to secure a coveted spot in the pinnacle event of the tour.

Overall, the VALORANT Champions Tour 2024 promises to be a thrilling journey filled with intense competition, strategic gameplay, and groundbreaking moments that will shape the future of esports.
